Senior Data Engineer - Consultancy

My client is a multinational consulting firm of the highest caliber that specializes in providing solutions for asset management. They seek a knowledgeable, inquisitive, and forward-thinking Senior Data Engineer with a strong cloud focus to lead challenging data analytics initiatives from start to finish in Microsoft Azure.
 
ABOUT THE ROLE
Key Responsibilities:

• Data Architecture - Engage in in-depth discussions about the architecture to instill confidence and ensure customer success in the process of creating new solutions and transferring existing data applications to the Azure platform.
• Data Engineering (Development) - Collaborate with the functional group leaders and engineering teams to gather and evaluate both business and technical data needs, in order to create a comprehensive strategy that utilizes the full suite of Azure data services for managing, monitoring, securing, and ensuring the privacy of the data.
• Testing – Conduct rigorous testing procedures, including unit, integration, and system testing, on all code and system components that have been developed to ensure the accuracy and integrity of the solution. This will also guarantee that the components operate efficiently and meet performance criteria, resulting in solutions that comply with SLAs.
• Production Support and Maintenance – On a monthly basis, review incidents and service requests, analyze them, and make recommendations for improving the quality of the service. Work together with the internal team to identify pain points in existing Azure deployments and configurations and suggest ways to alleviate these issues.
• Legacy Migrations: Moving SQL instances and SAS datasets from on-premises to Azure SQL across development, testing, or production environments.
• Training and Mentorship: Deliver technical instruction and guidance to fellow teams and colleagues and arrange and conduct training sessions for in-house development users on novel workflows, recommended procedures, accessing data in operational data stores, as well as the data warehouse, and utilizing business intelligence and analytics tools competently within the organization.
• Documentation: Create and uphold documentation for both new and established solutions throughout the solutioning lifecycle, encompassing all pertinent functional domains, such as bug reports, change requests, operational policies and procedures, solution designs, integration and API specifications, technical specifications, test plans and outcomes, production control (and/or job scheduling), security administration, T-SQL code, and logical as well as physical data models where appropriate.

 
Skills and Qualifications Required:

• Preferred 5+ years of deep expertise in data engineering related to Azure, with experience in multiple or all Azure components such as API Management, Event Hubs, Data Factory, Functions, Resource Manager Templates, Storage Accounts, Notifications Hub, Key Vault, DevOps, Data Lake Stores, Data Lake Analytics, Synapse Analytics, Databricks, HD Insight, SSAS, SQL Database or similar cloud infrastructure. Proficiency in Visual Studio for SSAS development is a plus.
• Thorough understanding of standard concepts, practices, and procedures related to database modelling (logical and physical) and management, as well as data lakes, data warehousing, data marts, and legacy migrations to cloud services.
• Experience in automating infrastructure for continuous integration and deployment of technical solutions using Azure services and features.
• Practical experience with scripting languages like Python, R, etc.
• Familiarity with modern version control systems like Git, SVN, TFS, etc.
• Experience in developing multi-dimensional expressions (MDX) queries to extract data from OLAP cubes that are supported by SQL Server Analysis Services, tabular models, and OLAP cubes used in the BI ecosystem would be advantageous
• Demonstrates strong organizational skills and exceptional attention to detail
• Capable of excelling in a small team environment while also working independently
• Adept at working effectively under pressure and possesses excellent time management skills
• Exhibits proficient communication abilities and the capacity to collaborate with different groups
