Job Summary We are helping our crypto client looking for an experienced and self-motivated Legal Counsel to serve as the sole Malaysia-based lawyer, reporting to the Legal Director of Commercial, Dispute Resolution, and Employment. This role involves managing all day-to-day legal matters in Malaysia, with a primary focus on employment and litigation, while supporting international commercial, regulatory, and corporate matters as needed.

Responsibilities
  • Oversee all Malaysian legal matters, prioritising employment and litigation issues.
  • Provide support for international general commercial matters, including contract review and negotiation with counterparties.
  • Assist with local regulatory and corporate matters, with on-the-job learning opportunities for areas outside your expertise.
  • Manage external law firms, including engagement, case management, work review, and fee approvals.
  • Conduct training within the organisation to enhance legal awareness and risk management, particularly in Malaysia.
Requirements
  • Common law degree from a reputable university.
  • Malaysian-qualified lawyer with 5-15 years of post-qualification experience (PQE).
  • Experience in top-tier law firms and, ideally, in-house legal roles at reputable organisations.
  • Located in Malaysia, preferably Kuala Lumpur.
  • Start-up experience is highly desirable, especially in handling complex legal matters in fast-paced, high-pressure environments.
  • Ability to work independently, take ownership of tasks, and make critical decisions.
  • Strong legal drafting and interpretation skills.
  • Excellent written and spoken English, with business proficiency in Mandarin Chinese (strictly required).
