job scope.
As the VP, Client Onboarding in a Leading Private Bank, your key responsibility will be to:
  • Lead the end-to-end review of client onboarding documentation, ensuring compliance with AML, KYC, and financial crime prevention standards.
  • Conduct thorough due diligence on high-net-worth clients, including enhanced background checks, source of wealth verification, and risk assessment.
  • Perform ongoing monitoring of client accounts, reviewing transactional activity and updating KYC profiles to reflect any changes in risk status.
  • Identify and escalate potential AML/fraud risks during onboarding and periodic reviews, providing actionable recommendations to mitigate exposure.
  • Collaborate closely with front-office teams to streamline onboarding processes while maintaining strict adherence to regulatory requirements.
  • Prepare and present compliance reports to senior management, highlighting onboarding risks, exceptions, and remediation steps.
  • Assist in the development and delivery of AML/KYC training programs for staff involved in client onboarding.
  • Support internal/external audits and regulatory inspections related to client due diligence and onboarding controls.
  • Stay updated on evolving HKMA/SFC regulations and industry best practices to ensure onboarding policies remain robust and effective.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Law, Finance, Business, or a related field.
  • 4+ years of experience in private banking compliance, with a strong focus on client onboarding, KYC, and AML.
  • Expertise in reviewing complex client structures (e.g., trusts, corporate vehicles) and assessing high-risk jurisdictions.
  • Proven ability to analyze legal documents (e.g., ownership charts, POAs) and identify red flags.
  • Fluency in English and Chinese (written and spoken); proficiency in Mandarin is a plus for cross-border client reviews.
  • Familiarity with HKMA/SFC guidelines, FATF standards, and PEP screening tools.
  • Detail-oriented with strong communication skills to engage stakeholders across business, legal, and compliance teams.
